Q&A gets personal with Corrie`s Maria - Samia Ghadie

Where did you grow up?
In Eccles, Manchester - home of the cakes!

What is your first memory?
I still remember the smell of the hotel we stayed in when we went on
holiday to Greece when I was three, and I remember eating steak and
tomatoes there.

Do you prefer a night in or a night out?
I like both. I enjoy nights in with my boyfriend Ciaran, eating a curry,
watching a video and chilling out. But I also like an excuse to dress up,
so the odd night out is good too.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
For a while I wanted to be Jet out of Gladiators! But mostly, I just remember
wanting to be an actress.

What`s the best piece of advice you`ve ever been given?
Be yourself. My nan and my mum always told me that, and I think they`re right
because there`s nothing worse than false people.

What was your favourite toy, and do you still have it?
A doll called Tiffany. She wore this horrible babygro and had blonde hair. She`s lost
an eye now, but she`s been passed on to my friend Vickie, because I couldn`t bear
to throw her away.

Describe yourself in four words
Bubbly, dopey, dizzy and gregarious.

When did you last cry?
This is going to sound really corny, but it was at the preview of the film I made beofre
joining Corrie, which is called There`s Only One Jimmy Grimble, because it`s really
emotional in places.

If you could play any role, what would it be?
I`d love to do period dramas, because I`d enjoy dressing up in all the costumes.

What`s your biggest fear?
Cancer, because my grandad died of it. Death is a pretty scary thing in itself - wondering
what`s on the other side.

What was your worst job?
I had a Saturday job in a warehouse, and I was absolutely terrible at it - I used to get done
for talking all the time. You were supposed to stand there all day, get on with it, and not say
a peep to any of the other staff, and I couldn`t do it. It just wasn`t me.

Name three things you couldn`t live without
Curry, my family and my car, a Toyota.

Who is the most famous person you`ve ever met?
Robert Carlyle - he was in There`s Only One Jimmy Grimble with me.

What`s the most important thing you`ve learned in life so far?
Not to give up. At one point, I went a year without work, and sometimes I thought it was a
waste of time. But things changed and now I`m really glad I stuck at it.
